Embroidered vs PVC (Rubber) Patches — Which Should You Choose?
Both patch types brand uniforms, caps and bags well, but they look and behave differently. Here is how to choose between them.
Embroidered patches
Embroidered patches use stitched thread for a classic, textured finish. They suit sports uniforms, jackets, polos, caps and club or school crests. Bold shapes and text work best; very fine detail is limited by the thickness of the thread. See our embroidered patches.
PVC (rubber) patches
PVC patches are moulded from soft, flexible rubber with a smooth, raised 2D or 3D surface in solid colours. They are weather-resistant, easy to wipe clean and hold sharp edges and small text, which makes them a good fit for outdoor gear, bags, caps and workwear. See our PVC patches.
| Embroidered | PVC / rubber | |
|---|---|---|
| Feel | Soft, textured | Smooth, raised |
| Weather and washing | Good | Very good |
| Fine detail | Medium | High |
| Typical use | Uniforms, jackets, caps | Bags, outdoor gear, caps |
Other patch types. We also make woven, chenille, leather and sublimated patches and hat patches — woven suits very fine detail on a flat surface, chenille gives the classic varsity-letter look, and leather gives a premium finish on caps and jackets.
Backing. Choose velcro (hook-and-loop) if the patch must move between garments, and sew-on for permanent uniform use. Ask for the backing options available for your chosen patch type.
